Campus Bridging Initiative (CBI)
CBI is a cross-cultural learning experience that immerses students from urban and rural colleges in 2 weekends of evidence-based workshops that draw upon research from the fields of peacekeeping, conflict mediation, and community organizing.
The Challenge
The dissonance and disconnect between the urban and rural experience is increasingly prominent, marked by stark differences in political beliefs, differing access to essential resources, and limited cross-cultural interactions.
Our Solution
Research suggests that social cohesion improves when people experience understanding and belonging.
To build on this evidence, our curriculum draws on research from the fields of peacekeeping, conflict mediation, and community organizing.
By convening urban and rural students for an immersive, two-weekend experience of cross-cultural learning, individuals emerge as bridgers who feel bonded to one another and skilled to cross divides on their campuses and beyond.
How it Works
-
Move for America forges partnerships with urban and rural colleges
-
Move for America matches colleges into pairs (one rural + one urban)
-
Colleges recruit students to participate in the exchange
-
Students convene and all participate in CBI together: one weekend takes place at the urban campus, the second weekend takes place at the rural campus (or vice versa)
-
Move for America coordinates bussing, lodging, and meals
